I was lured into the shop that is selling this Z3 Coupe by a 997 GT3 RS parked out front.
I gave a thorough once-over inside of their showroom, without starting it or test driving it. Here are my impressions.
Exceptionally clean car. I didn't see any glaring issues in the exterior paint work, trim, glass, or wheels. The interior is super clean too. The passenger seat bushings had minor play, the driver's was solid. The glove box did not sag. The shifter assembly was very tight, no shifter cup play at all. Clutch take up felt solid and not close to the floor. The seat bolsters were not worn, the aluminum trim was not scratched, the carpets were all super clean. It even had that new Z3 smell my M Coupe had when I bought it.
I managed to shoe-horn myself underneath the rear end to look at the diff mount ear. It was solid, with no signs of tearing. I couldn't get a good look at the trunk floor spot welds though.
There were no fluid leak stains where it was parked, and had been sitting for a while. The engine bay was ridiculously clean, but I didn't pull any covers.
The only issue I could see with the car was a low right front tire. I couldn't find a reason, i.e., tire puncture, wheel crack, etc.
RAC deals mostly with Porsches, but had quite a few very nice Ferrari's in the show room. The Z3 and an E36 M3 were by far the cheapest cars I saw there. The staff was super friendly and invited us into their show room to look around. Nobody hassled us at all, we just wandered around admiring the cars in their show room.
Overall impressions. A super clean Z3 Coupe with all the right options. High end and respectable seller, but I got the vibe they might flex a little on the price. Nearing 60K miles the water pump and thermostat housing will be due soon, but that is still 6K miles away. I would also do the gearbox and diff fluid at 60K too. Supposedly the car has all records, which is very important with any BMW. If someone is looking for a very clean Z3 Coupe, this could be worth the premium pricing.
